Tech Tips

Some of these may seem small and/or trivial but may just be of use to someone. So if you have one no matter how trivial you think it is, please submit it.

Cruise Control:

A simple tip that you may love. If you are not aware of this already, the next time you have your cruise control on and want to speed up instead of holding the acceleration button tap it. Once will increase 2 mph, twice will increase 4 mph, three times will increase 6 mph and so on. This works on my 04, not sure what other years. If you try it and find it works on other years let me know and I will update this tip. Happy Cruising

Clutch safety bypass:

Do you have a manual transmission? Ever wonder what you would do if your battery died? How can I jump start my rig with the clutch engaged? Well here is your answer. There is a spot on the fuse panel marked “TRANS” insert a 20 amp fuse into this spot and that’s all there is to it. No need to remove the safety switch or cut any wires. Remove the fuse when your done and everything works the same as before. You can leave the fuse in, just remember that if you try and start you rig without engaging the clutch you are going for a ride a little sooner than expected. I only insert the fuse when off roading, so the safety feature is active incase my mind is not.

Rubicon Air Lockers

The only reason I wasn't sure about purchasing a Rubicon, I did not like the safety feature restrictions on the lockers. I knew there had to be something that could be done, I just didn't explore my options.  A friend and newly Rubi owner handed me the solution one day, cheap and easy to do. I do not want to take any credit for this so go to Locker Defeat and check it out. Read very carefully and use this modification wisely.

Up a mud hole without a tow point.

Have you ever been stuck or intended to pull someone and realize you didn't have your drawbar in your receiver? Well a 2" strap + 2" receiver and hitch pin = a great tow point. If your strap is hookless slide loop in receiver insert pin and PULL. If your strap has hooks (which it shouldn't, they are dangerous) double strap at end slide loop in receiver then insert pin and place hook on strap. Presto - tow point.
